February through June 2008: Click here for a brochure outlining the Adult Study schedule for spring and summer 2008.

Here’s a preview: For the six-month block beginning February 3, there will be three classes—a series based on the book The Dangerous Act of Worship, led by Rob Martin; a series on “Know Your Bible—Perspectives on Faith,” led by Vicky Greenbaum and John Zlatnik; and a series on “Environmental Issues and Our Faith,” led by the Cool Planet Working Group. There’ll be a break for Palm Sunday (March 16) and Easter (March 23). Sara Miles is doing the Spring Symposium on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30. The second sixweek block begins April 6, with classes on homosexuality and issues of faith, led by Vicky Greenbaum and a First Pres planning committee; I and II Thessalonians (the earliest scripture in the New Testament), led by Rob Martin; and “Writing Our Experience of the Sacred” (reflective writing based on the model of the Bay Area Writing Project), led by John Zlatnik.

Recorded Sessions

Global Warming

Our speaker was Stan Van Velsor, Ph.D., Global Warming Program Coordinator for the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club. He spoke about the causes of Global Warming, the effects and implications for the future, and ways in which we can make a positive difference.

Neurotoxic Threats to Child Development

Our speaker was Brian Linde, MD, husband of Jodi Ruland, a former member of this church. Brian’s subject was “In Harms Way: Neurotoxic Threat to Child Development-” Brian talked with us about environmental hazards that are harming our children – looking at such toxics as lead, mercury, pcbs and brominated flame retardants (found in our air, food, water) and their long-term impact on the unborn child- and also what we can do about them. Brian is on the staff of John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.

Creeds and Confessions

On January 18th 2004, Derrick Kikuchi began a series of studies on Creeds and Confessions where he led us through "The Search for Intelligent Life In the Presbyterian Church," a journey through our denomination's history of splits, reunifications, creeds and confessions. We've taken the audio from that session and the PowerPoint slides and created an online voice and slide show.

National Security Strategy & the New American Century Organization

Last year Tom Ambrogi and Tom Henderson alerted those of us who attended their adult study sessions to the Project for the New American Century and the President's National Security Strategy document.
