Church Friends Program

Last fall Children's Ministry began an intergenerational program called “The Church Friends Program.” Part of our church’s visioning is to have more intergenerational activities and events in and outside of Sunday worship to create more common experiences together. We continually seek opportunities to learn about each other and create a family culture. The Church Friends Program brings children from ages 3 to 10 together with older persons in the congregation who would like to get to know and become close friends with a young child. For the children in the program, having a special adult friend in their church family can turn out to be a real gift. With Church Friends we think we have a program where the chances of success for everyone are very high.

Some of the formal activities are:

  1. sitting together during Sunday services
  2. making Valentine cards to take on a visit to a "special person" in the congregation who may be a shut-in or someone who is physically ailing
  3. putting together Easter baskets for the women and children of the Mountain View Battered Women's Shelter
  4. singing together as the Church Friends/Children's Choir

Besides these more formal activities Church Friends and their children and families are getting together to do such things as bake cookies, see a child's play at school or go to a sports event. Below are some pictures of activities done at church. Click each thumbnail to see a larger image.
