Framing the Issues: How to Effectively Communicate our Vision of a Just World with Bruce Hahne
The struggle towards creating a more humane, equitable, just world faces many obstacles, one of which is the very language that we use, or don't use, to communicate our vision of a better world.  This one-shot talk, based on the recent writings of UC Berkeley linguist George Lakoff, discusses the important of "framing" issues, the impact of metaphor and story on political persuasion, how anti-egalitarian organizations have carefully crafted and aggressively marketed their own set of metaphors and stories to promote social injustice in America, and how we can begin to push back.  How to best communicate with an audience is a Biblically-recognized problem, so we'll also take a look at some Biblical examples of the use of framing.

    Spring Series in Adult Study:

“Creation Care: Climate Change, Faith, Science and Our Actions” (Evan Hughes & Don Hildenbrand) in the Fellowship Hall: April 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23

      • Children and Youth
        through spring:

Preschool - 2nd grade:  Younger children have the opportunity to enjoy Godly Play each Sunday morning from 9:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M, under the able leadership of Heather Titterton and Pat Kinney. Godly Play is an approach to children’s spiritual formation that involves creating a sacred space to present the stories of our faith, to wonder about them together, and then allow the children open-ended opportunities, usually with art supplies, to engage the story on their own terms.

2nd through 5th grade:  Church school will return to the Seasons of the Spirit curricula,   a multiage, lectionary-based resource, in our lively one-room learning environment.

6th grade and up:  Youth will engage NOOMA, a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus.  NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion.
