Thank You Window Committee

Peter began it years ago —
He planted two redwoods, then let one go.
'Twas the surviving tree that inspired it all,
The thought of creating window from wall.
Marshal was hired to draw and align
So we could imagine the final design.
At first it seemed hard to forsee
How the cross would look in front of a tree.
How would we feel, sitting in a pew,
With sunlight shining, obscuring our view?
But Peter, God Bless Him, became unperturned
So long as the cross remained undisturbed.
And from further inspection we learned that there
Was a new kind of glass that would cut down the glare.
To sell the idea, Ann came up with a scheme:
Grace painted a picture to show all the scene.
But how would we deal with suspending the cross?
And what about earthquakes and what about costs?
Luck was with us, and Marshal, our man
Discovered a window in the original plan.
And the Compton Foundation, plus Edie and Jean
Came up with the funding to fulfill the dream.
Next we needed a person to accomplish the feat,
To get it constructed — luckily we found Pete.
Who with his crew and measuring stick
Made miracles happen, overseen by Rick.
And now the church is blessed with a view
Of God's creation from every pew.
The trees and creation cause our spirits to soar.
We can't even remember what it looked like before.

With many thanks to all who helped,
Edie
