Ministry in and through small covenant groups at First Presbyterian Church is a way we weave our lives together, grow as faithful disciples, and carry out our church's mission. What are Covenant Groups? Covenant groups are special short- or long-term groups, led by trained leaders, which covenant together to do mission, study, pray, and share lives. Covenant groups are gathered around a specific need, interest, topic or mission ("focus"), and develop a specific covenant, or group agreement, as to how the group will accomplish its goals. The Life Cycle of Covenant Groups. Covenant Groups always have a specific life cycle: covenanting either to end the group at a specific time, or to re-covenant to continue as a long-term group. New cycles within the year present opportunities for new groups to form, or to join existing groups that are on-going.

It is difficult to imagine any church's ministry without small groups within the church gatherings of faithful people who covenant together for a common interest, need or task. All groups within the church, whether they are committees (task groups), covenant groups, or fellowship groups, comprise the Small Group Ministry here at First Presbyterian. The Small Group Ministry is a new way of seeing how we are the body of Christ together gathering in small groups to practice discipleship and to do the church's mission. In these groups, people carry out mission, study and learn, pray and grow spiritually, and share their lives with one another.

These are the groups currently (or soon to be) available. There are always new groups forming so come back to this page often! Check in the office for new lists.

NOTE: Covenant groups include elements of mission, study, prayer and life-sharing, and also expect committed attendance for a covenanted time period. Groups vary as to when they accept new members; please contact leaders as to when is a good time to "check out" the group. Groups marked with # are currently closed. Following the list of Covenant Groups are fellowship groups are more appropriate for "drop-in" attendance and other opportunities for community and service at First Pres.
