Maundy Thursday commemorates Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples; its name is drawn from the Latin maundatum, which means “commandment” and refers to the new commandment Jesus gave his disciples at their Passover meal: “A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
At our Maundy Thursday service, we will enjoy a simple meal of grapes, bread, and juice as we remember Jesus’ final meal with his friends, among the one who was to betray him, and examine how God calls us to live into Jesus’ new commandment. The First Pres choir will be leading in worship.

Our Good Friday worship service will feature selected readings from A Woman Wrapped in Silence by John W. Lynch. This solemn service helps us remember the gravity of Jesus death and allows us not to merely jump from the joyful shouts of Palm Sunday to the celebration of the risen Christ on Easter. Experiencing the painful death of Christ on Good Friday puts the joy and hope of Easter morning in sharp relief, and will deepen your understanding of Jesus’ journey from the cross to the empty tomb.
