Headshot of Bruce Reyes-Chow

Bruce Reyes-Chow

Born and raised in Stockon/Sacrament Bruce is a 3rd generation Chinese/Filipino who is deeply committed to the intersection between faith, politics, and social justice. And yes, he is as surprised as anyone that, after living in urban San Francisco for 30 years, he now finds himself the Pastor of an older, mostly white congregation in the Palo Alto suburbs.

While it has been an adjustment, he and his family are slowly settling and Palo Alto is quickly becoming home. Still looking for legit Filipino food, but that’s another story.

Bruce has been a Presbyterian Pastor for over 25 years serving a diversity of congregations in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is the founding pastor of Mission Bay Community Church in San Francisco and was the transitional pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Portola Valley and Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Daly City. In the summer of 2008 he was the youngest person ever elected as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). As his kids say, he is very important to a very small group of people 🙂

As the pastor here, he is 80% time in order to pursue other passions. Bruce hosts the podcast, BRC & Friends, is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, and is a Senior Consultant and Coach with the Emergence Network.

He is the author of five books, most recently, In Defense of Kindness: Why It Matters, How It Changes Our Lives, and How It Can Save the World (Chalice Press 2021)

Bruce and his wife, Robin Pugh, have raised three children and several canines. Most importantly he is a diehard Oakland Athletics fan, Philz Coffee enthusiast, and women’s soccer sideline parent.
