Juristac lies at the heart of the ancestral lands of the Amah Mutsum Tribal Band near GIlroy. For thousands of years, Mutsun ancestors lived and held sacred ceremonies at this location. An investment group has proposed an open-pit sand and gravel mine on the property. For more details, click here.

Santa Clara County has released a Draft Environmental Impact Report for the project and now the public has until
September 26 November 7 to submit comments. Please consider personalizing this letter and emailing it before the 26th. To find out more about the project, see www.protectjuristac.org, and to find out more about submitting comments, see www.protectjuristac.org/deir/. Both pages are filled with useful information. Feel free to contact Pat Kinney with any questions. NOTE: The deadline has been extended because an Erratta has been released, and because the owners have stated publicly that they prefer Alternative 3 to their original Proposal.
Submitting comments is an important way to stand in solidarity with our indigenous siblings. San Jose Presbytery has submitted a letter to the county opposing this project. You can view that here. Social Justice and Session have sent similar letters.
