The past few weeks have been quite the whirlwind. Not only is the world filled with chaos and fire, but our dear sibling in Christ, David Leith, passed away over the New Year’s holiday. Additionally, there are things going in our own lives and in the life of the church that is both exciting and painful. Our lives are in a constant state of flux and we have every reason to be overwhelmed, tired, and worn down.
This Sunday we will revisit our baptism and being called by name as a reminder that God is present and has claimed us, so even at the depths of our struggles, when we are able and ready, God is there to lift us up, renew our spirits, and remind us that the pain of the world will not have final word.
In this new year, I hope you will make a commitment to your spiritual life. I know that I am such a more pleasant person when I allow myself the space to listen for God. Be it Sunday at Early Church, through our 10:30 worship service, or simply taking a moment to sit with some silence, I hope you find some peace to begin this new year.
